Emmett Flood

Senior in Residence - September 2025

The Intergenerational Sharing Project aims to connect seniors with other generations to pass on skills and ideas they have learned throughout their lives.

ABOUT:

Emmett Flood is a former high-school teacher, who has a passion for the practice of creating "living memoirs." These living memoirs are methods of record-keeping an individual's life's story - carefully picking and choosing the moments that matter and finding methods of preservation that feel authentic to the individual.

At Mackin House, he taught a 4-part workshop called "Writing Your Life: Graphic Memoir Workshop" - passing along the fundamental skills of making living memoirs - introspection, curation, and long-term commitment techniques.

By taking this workshop, attendees left with a memoir of their own with the insights and skills to be able to take this practice with them. Many of the activities and sessions specifically focused on writing and sketching as means of preservation, but was a deeply customizable practice.

Our Seniors in Residence program is generously funded by the Government of Canada’s New Horizon’s for Seniors grant.
