August 19th marks the anniversary of the tragic 1942 Raid at Dieppe, in which over 6,000 infantrymen, 5000 of whom were Canadian, alongside the 1st Canadian Tank Brigade, some Royal Navy, and some Royal Air Force attempted to raid the German controlled Dieppe. The raid failed to achieve any of the objectives, and nearly 60% of the Allied forces were killed, wounded, or captured. The Royal Air Force lost 106 aircraft, the Navy lost 33 landing craft and a destroyer.
